If I nest a two layer effect, I can't add a dissolve in my time line or a transition effect. The nested is EXACTLY the same length as the originals PERIOD.

Is there a setting that I'm missing or is this just a bad mistake by Premiere Pro?

Eric

Many thanks.

Hi...

so you have trimmed a set of clips....

created a 2 layer effect...

nested it...

then in the parent sequence want to trim it out or add a transition?

Probably have to add some handles in the nest...PPro's not going to assume you want anymore media exposed then you exposed at the time you made the nest...

am I understanding correctly?

am I misunderstanding your intent?

Hello Alex.

You understood my plight correctly. I'm used to Avid where I can nest 6 video layers, then add a dissolve or transition effect. The extra footage is computed for me.

I guess your right about adding trims at atop and tail as the only fix.

Thanks for getting back to me.

Eric

Many thanks.

Well it depends on how you construct your sequence, right?

If you stack your nest over the clip you want to transition to...

then you can add the effect at the tail and it will work...

if you want to do the transition within the same track and you didn't account for handles when you made the nest...

open the nest and add some handles to the source....

then you can dissolve in the parent in the same track...

either way, PPro doesn't handle the detection automagically...
