Hey guys,

Wondering if anyone knows a way to move the Playhead Position in Premiere the same way you do in FCP, the way you can type + or - and any number to advance the playhead. When I type in a timecode manually in premiere this way it shows me typing it in the timecode, but when I press return nothing happens.

Any ideas?

Are you displaying audio time units? Make sure you are set to video timecode or frames, then typing in timecode or + or - values in the timecode display (bottom left of Program or Source monitors) should move the playhead.

Hey Trent,

Thanks for responding. I'm displaying video timecode (not exactly sure how to display audio only timecode in the sequence).

The strange thing is that if I click on the timecode and type in +10 and press return, the playhead will advance 10 frames. But if I just type +10 and press enter (without clicking in timecode first) it doesn't work (though it does display "+10" in the timecode while I'm typing).

Is this a glitch or am I missing something? Here are screenshots to show what I'm talking about:

Version of Premiere is 2014.0.1. The more I think about it, I think this must be a glitch.

One more thing worth mentioning: Every time I pressed Enter after entering the timecode it would start playing my timeline from the beginning. I realized that the Enter key is a default shortcut to render and play the sequence. So I disabled it in the shortcuts.

Basically I just want to be able to quickly type + or - and the number of frames I want to move the playhead, like in FCP, without having to use the mouse.

Hmmm, that is odd. This is working for me with PPro CC2014 (8.2).

Glitch then, thanks for letting me know. I'll run the updater.

Try it all on the Numeric Pad (including the Enter there).

Yeah that's what I've been doing. I'm fairly certain it must have been a glitch. Running an update now and will report back.

OK So I am now running the latest version: 2014.2, 8.2.0 (65) Build

Same problem. If I type (on the numeric pad) +10 (or anything for that matter) and press enter nothing happens.

However, if I click in the timecode window first, and then type +10 and press enter, it moves me ten frames ahead.

Can anyone else confirm this? This is so frustrating.

is any object in the sequence selected?

if so, it might think you are trying to move that object....

just a guess...

FWIW, I just tried it on my machine (latest build of PPro) and just typing numbers in (+10, -45, etc.,) on the numeric keypad moves the playhead around.

Hey Alex, great question. No objects are selected though. Does this basic functionality work for you? If so then maybe my preferences are corrupted.

Without clicking on the timecode first? Very strange. I haven't reset preferences yet, will do that and report back.

Hey guys,

Thank you for letting me know that this functionality should work. I guess my preferences were corrupted because I dumped them and now it works for me too. I should have just done this in the first place on hindsight, but to my knowledge this is actually the first time that this was an actual fix for something, and not just a "have you tried turning it off and on again" step to an otherwise bigger issue.

Thanks again to this fine community!
