How do you remove normalisation gain?

Hi, I asked about this in the basics sections, but got no satisfactory response. How do you remove normalisation gain if you change your mind and don't want it?

I tested this out and if you're using the normalize master gain-command then it just touches the level of the master track. So go into the audio track mixer and bring the master track back to zero.

Normalisation is applied on a clip by clip basis. If you apply normalisation to 2 clips...one with a person speaking and one that is just room tone, the room tone will be ludicrously loud. Once it is applied to the room tone, I don't know how to remove it. In FCP 7, you just delete a gain filter - not the case in Premiere. So, it is not a case of just adjusting the level of the master track.

How exactly are you applying this normalisation?

Select all affected clips in timeline. Hit G for audio gain, then set gain to 0 (first row). Setting absolute gain to 0 means reset to default.
