Hello guys, long time no see!

I have partially made a spreadsheet that clients can use to easily input timecodes and comment on an edit I've sent them.

It formats with colons automatically, which is nice, does HH:MM:SS only (my clients dont have the ability to navigate by the frame, and in any case, that would be my job!)

Problem is, this works as a Google Doc, but I cannot get it to work on Excel.
Can any of you boffins (Pat McGowan, where are you?) try create it?

The other bells and whistles thing which is way more complex is for it to also calculate duration, but that becomes a whole LOT more complex with framerates etc... so could also be done with just HH:MM:SS too.

The Google Docs one is at:
https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1mS9hRbgOboiwTTW-fjo3exXosH7Gr5s7aMH...

Please make a copy in your google drive.

Thanks,
Mark.

Excel doesn't understand the number formatting that Google uses.

Try

00\:00\:00

in Excel

Didn't realize that you wanted to perform calculations - your sample file didn't include any. If you need to calculate timecodes, my previous example won't work, so ignore it.

Hi Steve,
Well, the calculations are not imperative.
The client is only going to enter hours minutes seconds... so they can ballpark the durations manually if they like.
The main thing is to have the excel fields automatically change 6 numbers into HH:MM:SS automatically.
I tried that formula and entered it onto excel and it says "Microsoft Excel cannot use the number format you typed. Try using one of the built in number formats."
Presumably Im using the formula properly, ie entering it in the Format Cells > Custom field?
Tx
Mark.

Hi,
I saw that early on in my explorations, but both the dos and osx versions do not open on my pc, despite saying OK to macros...

It works beautifully here. Here's a screen shot...

Here are two versions of the Excel file in a DropBox -

Brilliant Steve, works perfectly!
Thank you!

That is all I need really, calculations for duration is pretty hard, though this one created by someone else works fine (tested with PAL) but the formatting of timecode numbers is not automatic, and also it HAS to have frames too, otherwise you get some error... but for your interest, here it is:
