Batch re-Link media with a different extension
on Jan 13, 2015 at 4:56:57 pm

Hi,

I haven't seen a solution to this, but the question has been posed.

I was sent a hard drive with media to edit. I had to change the file extension of all the clips (long story in another post). The clips however, are named the same.

I'm working with a director in another state who has the same clips I had to change the file extension to. He has edited a rough cut using the the QT clips and sent me the PP Project. I'm trying to re-link the clips, which total 350. I can manually re-link these to my clips with the different extension....which is a pain. I would like to batch link these. Is there any way to do this?

We are both working in CC2014 v8.1

I'm in Windows, he's on a Mac, which is no problem as we've worked on films like this before.

Also, the reason I had to change the ext is a ling story. I just need to know if batch re-linking is possible with a different ext.

Thanks,

Todd

My guess would be that the different extension might be a deal-breaker for a bulk-replace

But...have you given it a shot? If you try to launch the project and it asks for missing media (because you've changed all the file extensions of course), can you point the first one to its re-named version and see if the rest re-link?

[Todd Schmidt] "Is there any way to do this?"

There are a bunch of settings in the link media window. One of which is if the linking uses the extension.

Right Tero,
[Tero Ahlfors] "One of which is if the linking uses the extension."

Have you tried this?

Hey guys,

I tried re-linking with the re-link dialogue box and unchecked the file extension tick, still no go. As far as the re-Tooled program, I haven't tried it yet. There is no trial version of it so I'm a bit unsure of buying it.

BTW I posted this in the Adobe forums and they deleted my post for some reason.

Todd

Hi Todd,

[Todd Schmidt] "I tried re-linking with the re-link dialogue box and unchecked the file extension tick, still no go. "

Sorry about that. You can file a bug report here: http://adobe.ly/ReportBug
It should be working.

[Todd Schmidt] "BTW I posted this in the Adobe forums and they deleted my post for some reason."

Feel free to repost. I don't know how that happened.

Thanks,
Kevin
