i'm having a color issue with video exported from premiere

I have a shot with a character on a white background. i adjusted the white levels that the color behind him is pure white. I then cut him out using the 8 point garbage matte and put a white matte behind him.

since the background matches that matte, where one ends and the other begins is seamless in.

when i export the footage, the matte becomes grey, but the background behind the character remains white. so you can see exactly where the image is cut out.

I wouldn't really mind the color shift if it was consistent and the matte and footage background was the same color.

see the screenshot link below. the player on the left is the KMPlayer playing the video and the image on the right is Premiere's program monitor.

Premiere Pro CS5.5
export: H.264
NTSC, 1280x7208 23.976 fps, Progressive
VBR, 2 Pass, Target 10, Max 12 Mbps

i've tried exporting in several formats and always have this issue.

Dont ask me why just a feeling.
Add a Ramp to the color matte and map the black to white.

thanks for the reply. the ramp effect didn't work.

I have no idea what the issue is. i ended up having to cut out the character from the shot using several garbage mats and color keys so that there was no background.
