Oscar GottiRendering before Export

I always had a habit of rendering my timeline before an export (working on FCP7).

However, recently a colleague of mine told me it does not make a difference in Premiere as he says Premiere (or Encoder) re-renders the timeline anyway when you export.

Is this true?

Hi Oscar...

Since is FCP7 is based around QT and generally everything is a homogenous codec (like ProRes) then FCP has the ability in many instances to use your preview files and compatible unaffected sources on export to reduce final output rendering time.

PPro does offer "smart rendering" with ProRes and (i think) some flavors XDCAM AND if use preview is enabled.

Since more than likely you have not pre converted material to one of these supported formats…some re-rendering will be done on the way out.
