how to show website interaction in a video/commercial

Hey Creative People.

We've all seen commercials where someone is talking about how great website X is and we cut to a (fullscreen) of website X and see the cursor clicking on various buttons on the site which show how the website interacts, etc.

My question is what is the best, cleanest way to capture this website "footage" for use in post? I'm not talking about pointing a camera at the screen and capturing it that way, and I don't have the chops to "create" the website interaction in a motion graphics app like AfterEffects or Motion...but, I got to believe that there is a way to capture the exact website interaction that would need to be demonstrated in a commercial, infomercial, etc.

Any suggestions or recommendations appreciated.

Thanks!
Mike

we normally do a series of screen shots and recreate it in AE.

I did a whole series of these for my local Utility company…

so it's a fair amount of photoshop and AE to pull it off….

I use a program called Screenflow to capture a quicktime of my screen while I'm operating the website. It's designed to create your own tutorials, but you don't have to use all that.

ScreenFlow - affordable and exports all web interactions to video formats :-)

I use quicktime player. It lets you make recording of your screen very easily and the files cut into my post flow even easier. It is a mac-only solution though, I think.

You can use screen capture software to easily achieve this:

Mac Solutions:
Quicktime
ScreenFlow
iShowU HD

Windows Solution:
Camtasia

Or as Alex suggests, you can get screen shots of the site and animate in After Effects as needed.

Camtaisa is also available on Mac and I've had good luck with it.
