Premiere Pro CC will not import .MOV files
on Jun 12, 2014 at 1:59:01 pm

Having issues with Premiere Pro CC, I cannot import .MOV files created with my Canon 6D.

If I try to import the files, I get a very generic "File format not supported" error msg.

This is a new install of Premiere CC on a new computer. I was able to import them using Premiere Pro CC on the old computer.

Quicktime will play these files fine on my new computer.

Premiere Pro CS6 will import these files on the new computer.

Premiere Pro CC would open them fine on my old computer.

I'm not even sure where to start. Any help would be appreciated.

Here are my system details:
  • OSX 10.9.3
  • new Mac Pro
  • 3Ghz 8-Core Xeon E5
  • 64 GB RAM
  • Files are on external G-Tech Thunderbolt drive.

As a troubleshooting step, copy one of the files to your desktop and try to Import it. do you get the same error?

[Christopher May] "OSX 10.9.3"

there are a number of issues with 10.9.3, I wonder
if that is one of them.

apple is reportedly working on a 10.9.4 to address the
problems.

Hi Christopher,
You probably need to reactivate Premiere Pro. See this FAQ: https://forums.adobe.com/message/6416340#6416340

Thanks,

If you run into the issue again, try opening an existing project. If it comes up with an unsupported sequence setting, it's a good bet that the software has reverted to trial mode.

This can happen if you use external USB drives and swap them frequently.

Adobe has a fix:

The FAQ you link to (and the document IT links to) both date to 2012 and are CS6-specific. I assume the same problem (and its solution) exists in CC?

Try downloading QuickTime if not already installed - worked for me. (I had also re-installed PP CC & restarted).

Hope that helps.

rename the file and save it to some other location and then import it or import the clip directly from the camera card using media browser.

There would probably lose some codec to play and read your MOV files in Adobe Premiere CC on your new computer. You can try to download and install a proper one. If you don’t want to spend time and effort to understand these complicated codecs and download them for video editing in Adobe PP, just change your MOV files to another file type that Adobe Premiere CC can fully support. As far as I know MPEG2 is a good for editing.By the way when install the Premiere CC on your computer, ever tried to restart it?

Well , this MOV is a kinda container format which you may not very familar with the inner codec of this videos, but you can use MediaInfo to know the inner codec of your videos. And you can try to trasncode your MOV files into other foramt like AVI to reload them into Premiere.
I found a app which can handle my H.265/HEVC raw videos from Samsung NX1 to load into Premiere, video converter from pav. You can have a try. I am not intending to recommend any third-party app. JUst my experience.
