OSX Lion 10.7.4 WARNING!!!!!

4 straight hard system crashes after updating to Lion 10.7.4!

Use at your own risk! I am lucky that it is a down week for me, that's why I seem to have unlimited time and resources for b1tching and moaning.

Good luck with the update.

Do you have any peripherals? Express card or others?

There is a driver update 2.2.8 for the Sonnet Tempo dated April 16, 2012.
The Windows driver 4.2.0 is still going steady since May, 2010.

Looks like the windows driver is more mature. Sigh...

[Erik Mickelson] "There is a driver update 2.2.8 for the Sonnet Tempo dated April 16, 2012."

OK.

Lets backup a second.

When does the computer "hard crash"? Does that mean kernel panic by the way?

Can you boot?

Kernel Panic-Hard Crash. All the same to me. It means the computer and everything with it is dead until force restart holding the power button until shutoff.

I was just wondering if an application crashed, or did the computer kernel panic. There's a big difference.

When exactly does it kernel? Only when using Premiere?

Have you tried working without your Sonnet card?

A kernel panic can usually mean some sort of hardware conflict.

Just installed 10.7.4 on my C system and so far no problems. I've been playing with the Premiere Pro CS6 trial and it seems to be pretty snappy too.

No problems here either. In fact I don't really notice anything faster or slower after the update.

Do you guys have one of the two OpenCL cards that are approved by Adobe?

Sure do.

17" MBP 2.2Ghz

AMD 6750 1024MB

Works great for 30 to 60 minutes much faster then software mode then all of a sudden gpu mode plummets until I restart CS6. Software mode is flawless even if I switch to it from gpu mode after the gpu mode stops working after 30+ minutes.

You mean it literally switches after 30 minutes to software mode?

No I mean after about 30 to 60 minutes the gpu performance falls off a cliff and even at 1/4 res I can only get every fourth frame for playback. If I manually change to the software mode it works fine after that. I can also save my project, shut down CS6 and open my project again and the gpu acceleration will work again for another 30 to 60 minutes. At that time I can rinse and repeat. Either switch to software mode or shut down CS6 and open again.

I guess that's why openCL is a new venture.

Hi Thomas,

I wanted to let you know that we're aware of this issue and working to resolve it. At this time we cannot commit to any timeframe.

I am curious if you have found steps to reproduce this issue or does it only occur after you your running Premiere for 30+mins?

Thanks for you feedback!

Thanks for the response.

Tonight I was able to run CS6 for well over 2 hours without the gpu mode failing. I was mostly doing cuts and some audio EQ. I was also leaving it sit there for awhile and running other apps like Chrome to see if I could kill it. The GPU kept going strong.

See this post for more info:

Let me know if there are any other tests I could try or if you need any other info.

Peter, there seems to be a bigger issue with the 10.7.4 update. I don't think it's Adobe - I'm pretty sure it's Apple. After this problem being intermittent (audio locked to mute, inability to watch video or listen to audio, web video locking) it has become constant. It is a problem inside and outside of Adobe software.
