Rendering Nested Sequences

Can anyone explain why I have to render nested sequences twice?

First I create a nested sequence, fill it with clips and effects, and render it. Then I place this sequence on the main timeline. It seems to require rendering again. Shouldn't it be treated like a video clip with matching properties, which typically doesn't require rendering?

Shouldn't rendering the nested clip(s) make rendering the main timeline faster?

Should I skip ever rendering my nested clips and only view transitions, etc. by jumping to the main timeline?

Thanks

[Geoffrey Shea] "Shouldn't rendering the nested clip(s) make rendering the main timeline faster? "

in a word, no.

I'm assuming you came from FCP?

PP doesn't use pre-rendered video when rendering the final project, (unless you select "use Previews" but that's not recommenced because it will result in a generation loss)

So, when you make your sequence, and then render it, you are just making a preview.

That preview doesn't cary over into the master sequence so that's why you can render again.

Ether way, nether will have any impact on your final render for output, they're only for previewing footage/transitions/effects etc. that won't play back in real time. If it plays in real time, you're waisting your time by rendering it.

When you render a Timeline/Composition, you create a movie which is independent from the Timeline/Composition.

You should use the movie and not the un-rendered timeline.

I think people are confusing some terms here "rendering" and "exporting" (which are kind of the same thing, but used in a different way.)
I believe Geoffrey is talking about "rendering" in terms of previewing his work, not "exporting" to a seperate file. And if I am correct, Geoffrey, you are right that this should be simpler and I haven't found a workaround. You basically are forced to render a nested sequence to see what it looks like, then render the same nested sequence in the master sequence. It is cumbersome and Adobe needs to address it.
