Audio Playback stops halfway with some clips
on Jul 22, 2009 at 9:46:57 pm

Hello,
I've had a bug which I've put off trying to solve. I often have had audio playback cut off sometimes in the middle of a clip, once in a blue moon clips won't play at all.

It is not the obvious answer. My audio drivers are updated. It's not a codec thing. For example...I can capture HDV from a camera, resulting in a .mpg video clip. That clip will playback in Windows Media player fine. But in Adobe Premiere Pro the audio cuts off in the middle of the clip. Other clips, from identical source material captured identically do not have this issue.

So far the issues occur most often with imported MP3's and HDV video captured via firewire. Other than that there is no rhyme or reason to it.

I have tried restarting...sometimes works. I have tried cleaning the media cache...never works. I have confirmed playback settings...all is well.

Anyone else have similar issues?

I figured I would post my answer here as well...

In Vista and CS4, things are a little different, you'll have to go to Control Panel > Folder options > View and change the setting to show hidden files and folders.

Then go to: C:\users\{your user name}\App Data\Roaming\Adobe\Common\Media Cache Files then delete everything inside that folder. Keep in mind that this will delete ALL conformed files. See if this solves your problem.

I just had something similar happen yesterday.
Had completed a 3m40sec trailer version with a soundtrack, played it multiple times and was continuously running the sequence render entire work area command each time I tweaked it.
Finally when I had what I wanted, I hit the enter key as normal to initiate playback from the beginning and every time the playback stopped at a certain point near the beginning, about on the third video clip. There was nothing to be seen in terms of anything unusual on the timeline, no markers no bad video or audio, nothing, no clue at all.
However, using the HOME key to go to zero and then simply hitting the space bar played the sequence perfectly.
Also the AME outputs are all flawless.
And today, having left the system on all night running a range of AME outputs, no changes to the timeline at all, it now plays without a hitch when I hit the ENTER key!
Inexplicable.

Hi Vince,
thanks for your quick response. I tried it out with no luck. Erasing the Media cache files didn't change the situation.

I tried exporting with AME, inspired by Mahmud's post, and found the export to not have the audio either. Very strange, since the source clip definitely has audio in it, and the codec (HDV captured to MPG via PPro) is obviously something that PPro can handle.

If you have any other suggestions on why PPro would cut out audio / misinterpret a clip I'd be curious to hear it. At this point I'm gonna try just recapturing the damn thing.

Thanks everybody.

It has been a while since you've posted, but did you ever figure out how to fix your problem? I'm having the same issue.
