Camera recommendations for filming video in low light?
on Jun 22, 2019 at 8:25:52 pm

I'm just getting into video recording and video editing and I'm looking for a recommendation on a camera for filming in low light. I'd rather spend <$500 usd to start out. Basically I'm going for a similar effect found in this video. I don't plan on taking videography too far, just mostly for clips/playthroughs of things I write. The guy in the video told me he uses a canon rebel t5i and 1 softbox light. With all the cameras on the market and my lack of knowledge just thought I'd see what you guys' thoughts are. Thanks!

Sony cameras having an Exmor or newer sensor are the kings of the low light world. I have both a Canon T3i and a Sony RX-100, and the low light images produced by the RX-100 are quite nice, where the T3i at higher ISO settings are full of chroma noise.

I'd also consider what lenses you are using as a bit factor.

I use a pancake lens on my DSLR for low light situations and get great F-stops and beautiful depth regardless of camera.

Also, you might want to pimp up your light as the with this'll be cheaper than spending on camera or lenses and the more light you have the more options you'll get with your camera.
