Hello,

I am curious to hear opinions on this subject as I am in the market to purchase a new monitor. Currently using a Panasonic BT-LH2550 but I want to upgrade because I am not so crazy about this one.

Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you

I've only seen the Oled, waiting for it to be delivered this week. But I can safely say it is the best grading monitor I've ever seen.
Makes the LCD's look like toys and its tech surpasses the CRT grade one monitors its supposed to replace.

If you have the money, that'd be the one to get.

Its a money decision only,

- 1000 Apple Cinema display
- 2000 Dreamcolor
- 5000 Flanders
-15000 Cinetal / TV Logic
-30000 SONY OLED

Where is your budget ?

Wait a second...

He's comparing PVM, not BVM.

PVM is sub £5k here, so probably around $5k US

There is no other option for entry level or Trimaster level at the moment IMO unless there's features not present you require.

yeah I see that oled listed at around 6k with abelcine - will check with them today but ultimately my budget is around 4-6k. Anyone else not so happy with that panasonic I have or do people think it's viable? I was leaning towards Flanders but have heard such grey things about the OLED.
advice appreciated
thank you

You have to pay significant cash to add more inputs on the Sony PVM and BVM. Comparing the two Trimasters, I didn't see a huge difference.

Yeah right I just realised its the PVM not the BVM!

The one I was talking about is the BVM (30k ish). However according to Sony its the same tech in the OLED display I just think they took away some of the features.

Hi guys,

I'm also considering a new HD monitor. I'm torn between the FSI LM-2461W and the Sony PVM-2541. Can anyone clarify which would be best for colour critical reference, for work up to DCP and film-out (although I've been working in Rec709 and using LUT's for DCP/Film outs with great results, so a very accurat rec709 set up might 'do')

Thanks,

Toby

What about Sony OLED PVM-2541? It is 6100$ so in price range in between Flanders and Cinetal / TV Logic what about it7s performance?

Basicly I am asking what are the differences from both sony OLEDs? Is the PVM good for grading? Does it handle only Rec709?

I have the jvc and it just does not have the black level and the viewing angle is just terrible. If you are working with a client it is a nightmare

The FSI monitor is great and FSI is a great company. I'm not super happy with the black levels, but it's LCD so what can you do? If you're grading for broadcast, there's actually a pretty good argument to use that you should grade on a LCD because that's how it's largely going to be seen. FSI will also calibrate the monitor for you for free as much as you want for the life of the monitor. Just send it back and they'll calibrate it and ship it back to you. I've talked with several monitor companies and I really like FSI as a company. After all, you're not just buying a monitor, you're investing in a company to be your partner.

The PVM OLED screen is amazing! Black was true black. In a black room with no ambient light, when a white title is shown on a black field, there is no evidence of any screen edge. It's incredible. My understanding is that the PVM might not be as color faithful as the BVM as they use the same panel, but use the best of the line for the BVM and add more color management features in the BVM. Also, the PVM isn't available yet because of the crisis in Japan. So you'd be buying a monitor and buying into a technology that is brand new. You don't know what the issues could be. It could be great or it could be full of frustrating problems.

Honestly, the JVCs aren't great. The viewing angles are incredibly disappointing. Even with one person sitting in front of it, it's hard to know what viewing angle is right.

Hi Russell,
This is my first post so forgive me if I'm proceeding with the wrong protocol, but I am now considering both the Sony PVM-2541 and an FSI monitor for broadcast grading on a budget. Your post was very interesting, and I'm wondering now that a few months have passed, whether you have any more conclusions on which might be the better option here?
