v8 Primaries
on Jul 6, 2011 at 11:53:01 pm

Hello
I am not a DaVinci Control Panel user but a cursor user.
My question is:
Is there a way to gang the the RGB slider in any location, to be able to increase or decrease contrast and keep the weight for each color?
Thank you
Rob

Hello Illya Laney
I am only getting one bar/color moving with middle click and not the ganged 3 colors. Is there a mouse set up or v8 system set up that I'm missing? Thanks
Rob

Are you holding the middle click as you drag? What mouse are you using?

I am using the Apple Magic Mouse. Is it not compatible?

I imagine it's middle click functionality works a bit different than a normal three button mouse so you should try another model.

There are a number of right and middle click mouse operations available in Resolve so a three button mouse is ideal.

Magic mouse has no middle click.
Another thoughtful Apple product, useless for the pro apps ;)

Amazing:)
Did Apple just sprang unexpectedly the Magic mouse out of the blue or did BM decided, that they're not going to support it, even though it is now a standard mouse?

Well, I really love my Wacom and use it for everything, including editing, CAD and games.
The mouse is just on the table for guests and their internet needs.

i have the same combo of wacom + wave and am just curious how you have your desk setup for efficiency - any chance for a pic or explanation? I have the wacom right in front of me with keyboard above it on desk and then to the right i have the Wave angled towards me sitting in front of my dreamcolor.

Here is my current setup. I wish we could use one of the wave balls for mouse moves!!!!
I'd love to qualify HSLs and make points for power windows with the wave rather then reaching over to the right side for it past my keyboard!

haha, yeah, I like it.
its actually a simplified sunset, broken down to shapes, done in Scratch by toying with secondaries and then painted in acryl on canvas.
it even has a twin with only dark blue circles for the sky.

Nice room, Chris. What model of big screen are you using for the client monitor? Is it calibrated or THX certified?

That is a panasonic pro plasma series 11. I have it going to the Decklink card using HD-SDI and Yes its been Calibrated. Love it so far. Nutreal gray backdrop to not mess-up my luma / chroma vision.

Really loving the pics everyone - really inspirational!

I am curious about grey backgrounds myself as the new space i am moving to has red brick walls behind both my station and the client monitor. I posted early last week and got a few responses but I am curious to get some more suggestions about cheap / easy solutions for putting up grey behind a 50" plasma as well as my 24" confidence monitor which sit right in front of red brick.

I will post some shots of the new space when i get home
cheers

If you can't get a neutral wall because of the bricks you could surround it with gray poster board or something. Making it tasteful of course. But the idea is that anything white or black or non neutral grey will mess up your color sense as well as your contrast sense. Alexis does talk about this in both as a guest on Taoofcolor.com podcasts with Patrick as well as in his book. I even have in place the 6500k lume lights on the back of the plasma to reduce eye fatigue as well as providing good light to grade with. If you are grading for a theater release you will have a pretty dark suite but TV and broadcast you should have some light. Pref. Daylight balanced. Don't want to mix light temp. in the room either.
Here is a link to the Lume lights I used:

Hey Chris,

thank you for the response!

I am thinking to have something tasteful indeed - not sure exactly what but I would like it to go up and down for behind both monitors along with 6500 3-4ft bulbs installed in fluorescent bulb fixtures - hoping a nice combo of the two will create a good back drop for the monitors.

I use the CinemaQuest lights too for my studio and in my living room. I totally recommend them. The website is actually a cool resource for color critical monitoring geekery.

Here's my office gear at home before I wrapped up the cables and added a couple things. Second pic is of a 7" USB Mimo touch screen for my Parade since I use the Leader scope on the right for a Vectorscope and Waveform . You can't really see it, but there's a Kensington Pro Trackball on the right. It saves tons of space and the 4 buttons/trackwheel are killer. I used to use a Wacom, but it tended to slow me down.

something like this i could temporarily mount right behind my 50" panny with some of those cinemaquest lights pointing up and sitting behind where the tv stand sits - what do you think? I do want it to look as nice as possible considering it is a large beautiful brick wall.
