Strange performance from MBP 2017 with RADEON 4GB

Hi Everybody,

After my 2008 MBP died, I got a "new" one: a 2017 / 2.9Ghz i7 / with 16GB RAM / 512GB SSD and a RADEON 560 4GB GPU.
My question: Something does not seem to make sense about the performance speed.
On my big system I have an NVIDIA 980ti 6GB which is blazing through the test project (with adding up blur notes in different Versions):
While my Desktop needs to be challenged with 30 Blur Nodes to go under 24fps, the new MBP already struggles with 9 (21 fps).
Strangely enough when I tried the same test sequence on a colleagues MBP 2013 with an Internal Graphics Card and a NVIDIA 750 2GB, it was
dealing with up to 18 Nodes before dropping realtime speed.

I was never a big RADEON fan, but why such a bad result?

Also weird: switching between OpenCL and Metal on the RADEON 560 4GBB makes barely 2fps difference per second.

Not sure, what to make of this.

Thanx for your thoughts.

Best,

One of the reasons I switched to PC from Mac is their lack of support for NVIDIA. I don't know the specs of that RAEDON card but I do know I would prefer to run Resolve on NVIDIA graphics.

Hi Michael,

of course, I agree 100%.
On my Hackintosh I do run a NVIDIA 980ti 6GB.
But for Mac series you have Radeon.

Anyways Apple cut us off in the future with their refusal to keep supporting NVIDIA.

I did some test with pretty shocking results:

Exported files from FCPX, PPro, Media Encoder, DVR from the MBP2017 (RADEON Pro 560 4GB) and my Hackintosh (NVIDIA 980ti 6GB):

FCPX export: the MBP is the clear winner (about 25% faster)

Media Encoder: it's a tie, more or less the same (MBP a little faster)

but now!!! PPro export -> Hackintosh: 42seconds / MBP2017: 4min05sec (6 times slower!!!)

and DVR export -> The Hackintosh is 3 times faster than the MBP

Best,

Sascha
