KiPro as slow motion playback for on set preview
by Matthias Stöckl on Apr 13, 2012 at 7:42:25 am
I wonder if I can use the KiPro as a playback device for slow motion preview with a controller connected via RS 422.
Could this bring a decent slow motion effect?
Is the controller the essential piece of gear or is this more dependend on the footage itself (ProRes HQ)?
It’s only for preview on set, no further need of this material.

We had this conversation about a year ago when RS-422 support was available with the new firmware. I think the verdict was that it was very possible, I just haven’t gotten around to finding an inexpensive controller to test it…

I tried Ki Pro with Sony PVE-500 and DNF 300 controller.
You can control the speed of Ki Pro but the quality of the slow is not good. There is no frame blending or another kind of frame interpolation like in a EVS or 3Play.
If you have a lot of movement in the image, you are going to see the interlace of the fields.
Depends of the use. It will not work in a set up where people expect a hi quality slow.
