Best Hardware to Transcode r3d

We are getting ready to do a Cantemo installation, which runs on vidispine. We primarily shoot with the RED and we shoot RAW up to 8k.

We want to transcode the raw footage to prores and h264, and I'm trying to pick the right server that can maximize the transcoding speed. We have about 120 TB of footage now, so we want to transcode all the existing footage and then transcode new footage upon ingest.

What do you guys recommend?

I was looking at a dual xeon E5-2687W v4 with 128 GB ECC RAM with a Nvidia P5000 graphics card. The chassis can support multiple graphics cards as well.

Is there a better way? Are cores more important than clock speed? Should I be looking at a the Nvidia P6000?

Probably best to ask this at the Post section at REDUSER.NET.

Jeff Kilgroe is the hardware guru there and can easily get you going as well as others.

I too have the same question but for me its the Quadro options for 3D Animation.

I have a few ROCKETS for my transcode needs and Im 99% 4K DCI.
