Editing 6k RED stutter-free?
on Dec 8, 2016 at 3:55:52 pm

Hey folks! I'm thinking of shooting a feature on a Dragon at 6k, editing on a 4k timeline for a 4k master.

Has anyone done something similar and had a good (stutter-free) editing experience? If so, what were your basic rig specs (CPU, GPU, RAM, storage config)? What software? (I'm planning on Premiere, but if anyone has edited in Resolve I'd love to know.) How much difference will REDCODE compression ratio make?

THANKS!

New Mac Pro 8 core with 64GB ram and d700 GPU. Footage on Gtech studio XL thunderbolt RAID. Editing using FCPX gives best performance by miles, good resolution and stutter free playback.

4K DCI with "Leave files in place" option for all my RED projects.

Running of TB2 G-Tech Studios.

So far so good in both FCPX and Premiere at home studio.

For day job, Avid on nMP D700 with 64GB RAM using Avid Artist DNxIO and all files blessed with DNxHR 4K DCI.

Runs smoothly too.
