Red Epic-W - fixed noise pattern on monitor (not footage)

After just a few minutes of filming, what looks like a fixed noise pattern appeared on the 7" Touch monitor. This didn't affect the actual footage, which was clean and beautiful but has anyone else experienced this and is it a fault or just another Red idiosyncrasy?

Many thanks,

Boris J.

Hi There,

One thing to take a look at your monitor sharpness settings. If you have that cranked up you can begin to see fixed noise patterns on the monitoring path but it will not be on the R3D.

Really!?! I'm using focus assist but I don't have sharpening turned up. It's kind of like filming through a pair of tights, not that shimmering effect that sharpening produces. Like a very fine checkered pattern all over the screen and obviously most noticeable in the blacks.

Many thanks,

Boris J.

Yes,

The focus assist can cause that.

I would turn off focus assist and use monitor sharpening to the point it does not show up, 50-60 generally.

When you say fixed do you mean it stays on the same spot even after you move the view?

There is an issue with the 7" TOUCH when I use the longer RED cables.

I get odd anomalies and patterns almost unusable.

I thought there was a firmware update but I haven't bothered.

I just make sure to use the shorter cables.
