RED Dragon footage render times
on Jul 14, 2015 at 7:27:44 pm

Hey all, Im doing some 3d work with my 5k red dragon footages. I work in after effects and c4d,and i have set my export settings in ame to h.264, 1920x1080 and 1 vbr with a bit rate of 50min and 55 max.
Yet when i set it to export my final product from adobe media encoder its been almost 24hrs and the render isnt done yet. I have a Hp z620 128gb ram, 8gb graphics card and dual intel xeon. I am stumped as to why its taking this long. If anyone could give some insight into why its taking so long I would really appreciate it. Thanks

What effects are you applying?

Well I have a cinema 4d project linked via cineware. Then i have some simple effects done in after effects as well as an optical flare and some png images. In addition i have a motion tracker and a slightly heavy grading on my footage.

Any processor intensive stuff like NR,? How long is the shot? Can you export it in another way without adobe media encoder, like a straight render it out of AE? Does that make a difference?

Also double check all of your RED settings, I'm assuming 6kFF at full debater. remember it's almost 5x more data than HD.

Nothing intensive like NR. And the shot is 21 seconds and 21 frames. Heres the thing im not really familiar with exporting red footage out of after effects. If you could please give me an explanation of what the right settings for exporting a red footage from after effects i would really appreciate it.

Also I need an h.264 export from after effects hence the reason im using media encoder.

Render to a ProRes or QuickTime lossless format from Ae and then encode to h264. Ae is bad at encoding direct to h264.
