News: Behind-The-Scenes: Making of the new Glock G41 Commercial
(October 16, 2014) Modest, a commercial production company based in Atlanta, GA has just launched a behind-the-scenes video highlighting the making of a commercial for Glock's new G41 Gen4 Pistol. The special challenge was that the storyboards called for a pivotal scene to start on a crane 30-feet directly above two parked SUVs and ended 300-yards away at the moment the plane was breached, and the director wanted to shoot the entire thing in one shot.

"When Glock and its creative agency CraterDust approached commercial production company Modest in Atlanta about producing a spot for their G41 pistol, they knew they wanted the spot to be eye-catching and to highlight the tactical nature of the gun.
Director Matthew Pope looked at CraterDust’s concept - a special forces team doing a takedown of a hijacked plane on a tarmac - and saw the potential to use a single real-time shot to put the viewer in the middle of the action. “We wanted to show not only the sense of immediacy but also the fluidity of the operators and how precisely they work together as a team in situations like these. And so pretty quickly we knew we wanted to find a way to show as much of that as possible in a single shot,” Pope says.
The challenge was that the storyboards called for a pivotal scene to start on a crane 30-feet directly above two parked SUVs and ended 300-yards away at the moment the plane was breached. “We needed to find a way to take a series of shots we normally would have done individually - crane, dolly, steadicam - and to join them all together without the benefit of a budget large enough for heavy visual effects,” says Pope, who worked with Director of Photography Matthew Rogers and Special Effects Coordinator Drew Kimball to devise a shot that included the use of pulleys, a Movi rig, hand-offs of the RED Epic camera from one moving vehicle to another, and half a dozen camera operators.
