Best external HD for RED Camera workflow

Hello,

My company is investing in a RED camera. And I wanted to source a large capacity external to handle the work flow. I'm debating on whether a RAID 5.0 would be best or a non-RAID with a thunderbolt connection. Any thoughts?

Here are the 2 I'm debating:

Thank You

Hi Timothy,

A large RAID is crucial to have when working with a RED camera. Both options you gave will give you 16TB of storage, but most people feel comfortable working with video footage on a RAID, vs non-RAID.

We have helped out many people in the same situation, and they have gone with our ThunderRAID2 or ThunderRAID Mini.

Hi Matt,

Is the Thunder RAID 'mini' ready to go OTB for Mac? I'm looking for a simple but hard working HD; essentially we are a small department and I need something that will live on my desk to act dually; ingesting RED footage, archiving footage, a working drive for post and acting as a portable HD for traveling.

Thank You

Yes, 'plug -and-play'

We will configure the RAID for you, as you wish (RAID5 most likely) and do all the testing to make sure everything is working before you receive it.
