it said:

an error has occurred during the current operation

an exception has occurred

and now whenever I try to reopen the file it gets to 56% and says that.it also has a code of that helps.

Instead of opening it as a project, try importing it and dropping
it unto the timeline as you would a piece of video...and see if
that helps.

Ok...Try renaming the video and audio files (or the folder)
that are in this particular project....restart your computer.

Now when you open the project in Vegas it will prompts that
that the files are missing, follow the instructions to locate
the missing files and select where they are and see what happens.

No guarantees, im just trying to help you out of this rut.

okay I tried renaming them it didn't work, for some reason it simply ignored that I renamed and continued to try to load and once again got stuck at 56%.I decided to find the dll that was crashing mcmp4plug.dll and I replaced it with one from sony vegas 11.0,it is now working,I guess somewhere between 8 and 11 pro they fixed the problem.
