repairing damaged MTS file?
on Dec 1, 2011 at 4:34:01 pm

Currently editing a project from a Panasonic AF100. This camera does continuous recording by splitting footage into 4GB chunks automatically. The first 3 files on the card are 4GB each and the 4th is 2.89GB. The four files SHOULD make one block of footage with 25mins in each 4GB chunk.

The problem is that the second chuck, while 4GB in size, is only 4min25sec in duration.
The file has an error. Some players get to a certain spot, and then they hang.

I've tried running it through ts-doctor. TS shows an error, but then can't fix.

Any ideas? This footage is very important.

I don't know much about data repair, but recently a hard drive crashed with a lot of footage on it, and I brought it to a data recovery shop. It may cost $200-$300 by the time it's done, but they claim that they'll fix the heavily corrupted footage. So that might be an option if you find a reputable place.

I've had good luck using this program: http://goo.gl/Lrmqi

The trial is free but only gives you 50% of the repaired footage. But it at least lets you know if it can be repaired. Good luck!

Big thanks Jim.

Although the diagnosis doesn't look good for me.

Also, that program (gs.exe) produces a bunch of serious warning my comodo (my security software). Amongst other things, it tries to install hooks all over the place. Still, when you're desparate...

I posted the output of the repair log here
