Applying crop preset to multiple clips at once?
on Dec 9, 2009 at 11:48:03 pm

I have a video I'm working on that's chopped into a hundred different pieces. I need to make a crop change to all of them with a preset that I've saved. Is there a way to do this all at once? Right now, it looks like I need to go to the crop/pan properties on each one, then pull down the preset and close.
I know if I started out with the correct crop at first, then chopped it up, everything would have been saved, but I'm past that point now and it would take to long to redo. I'll click each one manually if I have to, but wanted to check with the experts here first.
Thanks in advance.

Copy clip #1 (already has the Pan/Crop applied to it.
Click clip #2, shift-click all the rest of them (to select all of them), right-click and select Paste Event Attributes.
The desired Pan/Crop effect is now applied to all your clips.

The one problem I have with this function, is that you can't choose which attributes to paste. In Final Cut, that's an option, which is so nice. If Sony implemented this in a new release, I'd have to upgrade for sure. This copy and past option is worthless to a timeline that is full of effects and crops and movements. Good to figure it out, before you get to that point. Also, you could create a new video parent track with all the rest being children and then resize the whole lot of clips that way, if you did have a lot of effects already in place.

You are very right about this and it would be great to solicit and upgrade with a feature like this. Also it would be great if you could look at the history and just undo or redo a particular spot and not have it affect the rest of the project.

Sony Product Suggestion

If enough of us ask for a particular feature, Sony may decide to implement it.

If the crop is the same, then you could try this:

a. insert a new track above the track(s) w/ events that need cropping
b. add a Solid Color white object onto that track; stretch it to the desired length
c. select Make Compositing Child on the original track(s)
d. change the Compositing mode of the newly inserted track to Multiply
