Just about anything that can be isolated can be fixed, but I can't think of a way to fix something as complex as chromatic aberration. Still, you never know: Can you post a screen grab here of what you are trying to fix? I know the folks here love a good challenge.

It's a simple chromatic aberration. The solution in photography is very simple and available in almost any picture editing software, I just wonder why both After Effects and Vegas don't have something for that... btw this is a typical CA problem http://www.tlc-systems.com/pp011185crp.jpg

My background is technical, so the extent of my knowledge on chromatic aberration is limited to optics, but if photo editing apps can fix it, the Premiere/After Effects should be able to fix it, since many/most/all? Photoshop filters are available in those apps as well. Can the example image you posted be corrected in Photoshop?

The best results I got for removing the chromatic abberation in this example footage using Vegas is to take the information of the red channel of the footage to create new Red, Green and Blue channels (see figure). (Please note that the result is this way looks much better then when the Green or the Blue channels were used. Also applying the Black and White FX is not giving satisfating results).

And if you wish you can bring back some of the sharpness using the convolution kernel FX

To further improve the image, you can duplicate the track and apply the HARD LIGHT composition mode (see figure).

that was just an image taken from internet to show what CA is all about.. btw I tried with some color footage and no success... I will upload a one second clip I just made in few minutes, maybe if you or someone else can do the correction and put the project file online it would be cool...

Ok this is a sample file I just did:
http://www.robertomettifogo.com/stuffbox/zip/chromatic-aberration.zip
A you can see the wide angle adapter caused some CA on the airplane's nose (green) and on the right side of the elevator (red).
Can you do a project file with the correction and post it?
Thanks

This one doesn't look to difficult to repair in Vegas, but ofcourse the question is whether you are satisfied with the result obtained by now. Another question is whether the camera is moving around the plane or is it a static shot?

Treated picture. Please open both pictures in photoshop and compare them under a large magnification.

4 times the Chromablur FX (three times might also be OK depending on your wishes and the rest of the footage). And I masked the red wires out (that's why I was asking whether it is a static shot or a moving camera).

Please inform us about the results you get...

Ah ok I tried chromablur already but it doesn't totally eliminate CA, and it affects also other colors of the video..
My videos are always moving (aerial videos).
Thanks for suggestions

'Ah ok I tried chromablur already but it doesn't totally eliminate CA,'

That's why I included some masking around the red-colored wires...
You didn't look at the project-file yet?

As you have seen in the 2 examples above, it depends very much on the footage whether CA can be repaired and how it can be done. So without having seen the rest of the footage, I can't say anything about it.

I didn't see it yet but I know what you've done, I do aerial videos over natural landscapes and cityscapes, CA is everywhere, video is always movine, I need photoshop like plugin. Using a fixed focal lenght lens it would be very easy to correct but so far I did't find any plugin with two sliders to effectively correct CA like we do in Photoshop or similar..

Did anyone come up with a plug-in for this? After all, it's very simple to remove in photoshop/lightroom on stills.
Thanks,
Fred
