Timecode resets when I split it
on Jun 28, 2020 at 8:39:18 pm

I insert timecodes by making a new layer with a text media. I make the text blank, set duration to "20:00:00.00", event fx, "Vegas Timecode", leave settings default.

This used to work fine but now when I make a split, the timecode resets to zero.

17. Upgraded from 16 recently, but I was having the same problem there.

Austin I must be misunderstanding you. You're adding an EVENT FX so when you SPLIT an EVENT it should reset the T/C. I don't know what you were getting in 16 but when I SPLIT an Event the T/C resets in both 16 and 17.

Hi Austin

Could we get a screen print of your layout ? We all have our specific workflow...

Cheers !

Sorry, I don't know what "T/C" is. I'm not super familiar with the ins and outs of Vegas. But I remember in 16 sometimes when I made the timestamps it wouldn't reset when I split it and sometimes it would.

As for taking a screenshot of my layout do you just mean a screenshot of the program? Or is there a specific thing I need to capture?

Either way, I have found a workaround. One of my old project files still has a timecode that allows me to split it. So I just copy and paste the event from there now. It looks kinda blurry for some reason and the "frames" part of the counter doesn't seem to match up. But the seconds, minutes, and hours match so it doesn't really matter. I'll just crop the "frames" part out. Thanks anyway, though!

Two things:

1. The timecode SHOULD reset if you split the event. The solution - don't split the event! You don't need to split that event.
2. Why not use an "Empty event" instead of a text box with no text?

Apply timecode as Media FX
