Low volume Audio DVD using Vegas 16
on Aug 19, 2019 at 12:54:14 pm

Hello everyone,
I upgraded to Vegas 16 recently, I am having problems producing a DVD with good volume.

I had this problem with Vegas 12 as well but following suggestion from other members I was able to resolve the problem by making my own rendering template.
Vegas 12 gives the option to customize the AC-3 template, Vegas 16 doesn't.

I rendered separate Audio, Video files for DVD Architect, I tried different formats AC, Waves etc. the end product, the DVD, is considerably lower in volume then the original project.

I also noted if I just render a single MPG2 file, when I play it on the computer it's just as loud as the project, but when I make the DVD with DVD Architect, the resulting DVD's volume is also considerably low.
I just started a ticket with Magix, I also send them screen shots.
I hope anyone can help.
Thank you

Hi Luigi!

Which AC3 option did you choose?

DOLBY AC3 with AGC ON you get this in DVDA - quiet:

DOLBY AC3 without AGC you get this in DVDA - Full Audio:

Thank you Bernard,
I think I tried both, I even tried waves.
I am rendering again right now in Vegas 12, I loaded the mgp2 file in Vegas 12 and rendered again with my template, the difference is unbelievable.
As soon I am done with this project I will post the screen shots.

Thank you

[Luigi Perrotta] "I think I tried both"
OK. I’m still not convinced that your workflow is still not missing something. What I’ve shown you is what I do to get correct levels.

Thank you Bernard,
I just rendered another DVD choosing the second option as you suggested, it didn't work for me, I got the same results. I wish I could let you hear the difference of these two DVDs, it's not a difference that you go back and forth to hear it, it is a definite difference, the one from Vegas 16 went directly in the garbage.

I did a simple test, I played the DVD that i rendered in Vegas 12 first, it sounded nice and clear. Then I inserted the DVD that I made with Vegas 16, without touching anything, I could barely hear it.

If it works for you I am glad it means that my version of Vegas 16 has something missing.

Maybe a member who has Vegas 12 and 16 version can try to see if they get the same results?

Now a new question comes up: Why I can customize a template in an old Vegas version and Vegas took away this great option in a new version?

Grazie
Gino

While you're looking for a solution render the ac3 file using Pro 12 and use this plus your mpg file rendered using Pro 16 to create your DVD. That way you get the volume you're looking for.

I would like to update the problem I am having with volume.
After I sent screen shots of my vegas 12 and 16 this is their answer: Hello

Thank you for your message.

The AC-3 Pro encoder was removed as a feature since VEGAS Pro 14 and going forward. VEGAS Pro still does contain the AC-3 Studio encoder as a feature.

They don't offer any solution. I requested the money back for the "upgrade"

Try this:

Click on Custom tab;
On the first tab, set Dialog Norm at -31 (this sets it at unity gain);
On the last tab marked Preprocessing, set the Line Mode Profile and RF Mode Profile mode to "none";
DC High Pass Filter On (this operates at <=3Hz and takes DC bias out of the mix);
Bandwidth Low Pass Filter On (this takes aliasing noise at >20kHz out of the encode).
Save this as a preset.

Thank you Edward,
These options are not available in my Vegas 16, they are available in Vegas 12 and I made a template years ago, they work well.
See the post above from Magix, they told me the options were removed since Vegas 14, they didn't offer any solutions. I asked they refund me money I paid for the "upgrade" back. Since I purchased Vegas over 14 days ago they will not refund it. I asked them how they expect people to buy future upgrades if they remove options that worked and they don't offer a fix. They just don't answer.
As of now I need to go back to Vegas 12 to produce a DVD with a healthy volume.
In fairness they offer many Audio templates. I am trying a few to see if any work.
