Repeating text with CC RepeTile effect, add space between repeats?
on Jul 1, 2020 at 2:10:19 am

Hi there,

So I've added CC RepeTile effect to a text layer in AE. In the drop down option of this effect 'Expand Right' I have linked a slider to control how far the text repeats across to the right: My issue is that each repeat buts up to the previous, how can I add space between repeats? With padding or something?

CC RepeTile/Expand Right expression I have:
(comp("Controls").layer("Control_RepeatText").effect("Slider Repeat Right CCrepeTile")("Slider"))

You could use this as an expression on text source for the repeat and a linear wipe if you need the wipe effect. This expression allows you to add spaces at the end of the text so the repeats are not close. Replace the number in parenthesis with the number of repeats you need.

text.sourceText.repeat(3)

Hey, thanks very much for that.
Just to confirm it's not possible to insert space or padding to source text when using the CC RepeTile effect to repeat right / left / up or down? The reason I like that CC RepeTile effect is that it leaves the source text position centre which is good for what I was trying to achieve.
thanks Jac ;-)

Maybe like this:
- add Effect-> Perspective->Drop Shadow
- set the Opacity of the Drop Shadow to 0,0001%
- set Direction to 90
- Now use Distance for spacing.

Put the CC Repetile after the Drop Shadow

If you also want Vertical spacing, adjust the Direction to 45° to equal spacing in all directions, or experiment to get different ratios.
