Inherit Value from different Composition
on May 23, 2020 at 9:32:35 pm

Hi

I have Comp1 which sets colour values (Color 01, Color 02, Color 03, etc).

I have 2 other comps that need to have the same values set in them. Is there a method to "inherit/copy" the values from Comp1 into Comp2 and Comp3? Otherwise I need to manually set the values in each comp and I am hoping to be able to automate that part.

I tried to use the pick whip but I can't get it to link across different compositions.

I am using AE v17.1.0

Thanks!

Here is some workaround so you don't have to write the expression by hand.

1. Copy the layer holding the color information to your current comp.
2. Pickwhip to the color property.
3. From the start of the expression generated, replace "thisComp" with "comp(Comp1)".
4. Delete the copied layer.

Thanks! FYI I ended up with the following expression (which works):

comp("Comp1").layer("Control Layer").effect("Color 04")("ADBE Color Control-0001")
