Expressions for scrubbing the timeline in reaction to audio?
on Dec 5, 2019 at 9:46:07 pm

Hi All,

I'm working on a music video and am trying to figure out how to use expressions to scrub a clip on the timeline to the beat. I'd also like to vary the playback range as the clip is scrubbing - i.e. the clip would play from point X to Y while scrubbing, then from Y to Z while scrubbing. I'm going for a pulsing effect with the beat that scrubs over time.

I know this involves time remapping and using the keyframe assistant to convert audio to keyframes, but that's as far as I've gotten. Any advice greatly appreciated. Many thanks!

Hi Dan, thanks for the quick reply. I read the article and while I can follow along, the scripting is a bit more complex that I was hoping. Would either Beatnick or the BeatEdit plugins work for an effect like this? Thanks!

They both have trial versions you could play with and see what you think.

(disclosure: I wrote Beatnik, so I'm not impartial as to its merits for any particular application)
