AE Expression: Text anagram reveal
on Jul 19, 2018 at 10:13:32 am

Hi all,

First post on this forum, which I have used for a number of years for solutions to my AE problems!

Anyway, I need an expression and I am not really sure where to start...
I have 2 strings of text, for example lets call them:

EIPPLEPNA
PINEAPPLE

I want to show the first string (EIPPLEPNA) and underneath it will be '---------' (a series of hyphens representing the number of characters)
like so:

EIPPLEPNA
---------

Ideally I would have a slider control to reveal (change the '-' into) the correct letter 1 by 1
If it's possible to have the letter also disappear from the 'EIPPLEPNA' section too, then great (if not no problem)

Hope I made it clear, if anyone has any idea where to investigate or how to structure the set up/expression please let me know.

Thanks in advance!
Phil

This might give you some ideas. If you enter the unscrambled text into a text layer, add a slider control, and add this expression to the Source Text, you should get a slider-controlled reveal:

txt = value;
slider = effect("Slider Control")("Slider").value;
str = "";
for (i = 0; i < txt.length; i++){
str += (i < Math.floor(slider)) ? txt[i] : "_";
}
str
