"Wiggle a linked value" question
on Sep 29, 2017 at 9:44:14 pm

Hoping someone can help with this please!

I have a shape layer whose opacity is linked to a slider on an adjustment layer. I want the shape layer to take the slider value, wiggle it, and use it for it's opacity value but I keep getting errors and I don't know why. I know one solution is to put the wiggle expression on the slider but for other reasons I don't want to do that.

Any help would be much appreciated!

x=thisComp.layer("Adjustment Layer 1").effect("Slider Control")("Slider");
w=wiggle(10,10);
w[x];

Probably more like this:

x=thisComp.layer("Adjustment Layer 1").effect("Slider Control")("Slider");
x.wiggle(10,10);

This works, thanks so much! Could you please explain what the period means in this case? I haven't seen it used like this before. Thanks!

It's just the JavaScript dot operator, which tells the expression engine to wiggle the value of the slider object rather than the default, which would be to wiggle the value of the Opacity property hosting the expression.
