Get specific format from a source text
on Jul 31, 2017 at 3:22:08 pm

Hi everybody,
it's my first post on this saving forum 😁 I'm a bit impressed.
So here it is:

I have 2 text layers (one in a white color, and the other in a purple color with bold format) and I want a third one who adds their source text property.
So I basically write on the third layer's source text property the following expression :
thisComp.layer("TEXT 1").text.sourceText + thisComp.layer("TEXT 2").text.sourceText;

The text result is ok but the text format is the one from this third layer and not half as the first layer and half the second one. (I want it part white, then purple and bold as in the exemple).
Is there a way to get those format property in expressions?

Thank you very much.

Expressions don't have access to the formatting info. Basically, if an expression generates the result, everything gets the formatting of that text layer's first character.

Thank you very much Dan.

And by any chance do you know a way to get what I'm lookin for?
My point is to get some names separated by dashes in a text area and display it in a new text area with another format where the dashes are replace by a symbol character in another color. (for now I use the fonction split() to get the separated names)
