How to create a more realistic and smoother swing ?
on Feb 23, 2017 at 10:58:48 am

Hello there !

I am working on a little animation where i want to make a chair swing a bit on the side then replace normaly, but i don't like the look of it.
It's not natural and not as smooth as i would like it to be.

The problem is that i don't really know if it's the movement itself that is weird or just the chain of sequences that makes it look weird as before swinging on the side, there is a kind of zoom out effect starting from the center of the chair, so it would be more natural that the swing movement goes backward (which i can't do because the chair is not in 3D)

if someone can help me or give me advices on what to do i'll appreciate. Note that i didn't use expressions, just key frames hand by hand...

Here is a gif to make it more clear : http://gph.is/2lt7JJ4

Thanks

If you want to try expressions, check out Dan Ebberts' motionscript site. He breaks down the math and demonstrates lots of options: http://www.motionscript.com/articles/bounce-and-overshoot.html

If you want it more realistic, I'd suggest playing around with Newton2 (https://aescripts.com/newton). It takes a bit of getting used to, and the tutorials are fairly basic, but there's a lot of cool realistic physical details you can add to your animations.
