I’ve seen expressions being used to allow markers to trigger animations, based on time-remapping a pre-composed layer. But, is there a way of using a marker to instruct a layer to actually animate out (using its position values) without using time-remapping or pre-comps? Essentially without any keyframes.

Generally speaking, time remapping only helps if the layer's pre-comp can remain static, while it waits for a trigger.

I have a composition with a lower-third type graphic which, at the composition marker labelled “EXIT” the layer would move, off-screen, from its current position (value) to a second position (eg. -1920 on ‘x’) over 10 frames, for instance, WITH an Ease Out.

Using a composition marker (as opposed to a layer marker) would allow me to have multiple layers to act at the same mark but be individually adjustable (ie. number of frames to animate out).

Any help on this would be greatly appreciated.

Something like this should work:


moveFrames = 10;
try{
m = thisComp.marker.key("Exit");
}catch(err){
m = null;
}
if (m != null && time > m.time){
t = time - m.time;
dur = framesToTime(moveFrames);
x = easeIn(t,0,dur,value[0],-1920);
[x,value[1]]
}else
value

Hey

Following on from this... I'm wondering if it is possible to have a second marker in the comp, which does the complete opposite?

So it can get brought on and off again, or vice versa.
