Random Position of Keyframes on Timeline
on Aug 28, 2012 at 3:30:18 pm

My first time here, so really excited to see if I can have an answer.

I have one layer of a building and 80 masks on it (Rather than having 80 layers of windows, I chose to create different masked windows on one layer)
I need all different windows, therefore masks, to appear randomly. I do it manually. I keyframe opacity to zero and 100 for each mask. Then I choose that couple of keyframes and distribute it to the period of time I want them to be in. In this case it is 5 seconds.
Is there a way to make these groups of two keyframes for each mask to be positioned randomly on timeline?

Maybe I'm approaching this in a hard way. Is there any way to make what I want easier? Because I'll be making lots of this animation:/

You could do it without keyframes, with a Mask Opacity expression like this:

tRamp = .1;
tMax = 5;
t = inPoint + random(tMax);

But you'll still have to apply the expression to each mask (unless you write a little script to do it for you).
