On Dan Ebbert's site there is a great expression for an undulating grid that recreates ocean-like movement.
Now, I know the code doesn't really allow for 3D (just a 3D illusion), but I attempted to try and tweak things in order to create a little ocean environment. I have put several hours of work into it but don't have the know how to achieve the motion of Dan's undulating grid in 3D space.
I know that I can create a great ocean environment with Trapcode's Psunami, but I'm going for a saw-tooth wave kind of thing. i'm looking to make the ocean up out of sketched/scanned/&photoshoped images.
Any suggestions as to how I achieve this with expressions?
Taking Ebberts' noise() article one step further, turn his expression into a function, place in an external text file, then have each of the elements in your undulating grid comp call that function which returns the [x,y,z] coords for each element. Now you can mess around with the values without having to delete all but one of the layers, change the variable(s), then duplicate 99 or however many times to see how it works.
