Only one piece of creative (either SD or HD) will be accepted for air on ESPN, ESPN2 and ESPNews and this one spot will air
simultaneously on the HD and SD services. All commercials that are scheduled to air on any of ESPN’s other networks, (ESPN Classic,
ESPNU, ESPN Deportes) must submit an SD version.
16 x 9 HD commercials must be produced with “4x3 protection”, meaning all critical commercial content and graphics appear within the
4x3 middle of the 16 x 9 aspect ratio.
DVC Pro and D5 are the only acceptable format to be supplied for HD broadcast. No multi-reels will be accepted.
Tape box, spine, reel and slate should be clearly labeled and include the following information: HD5 720p, Advertiser name, Ad-ID
(ISCI), commercial length, commercial title, and 8 channel audio configuration.
All commercial traffic instructions must include the “H” at the end of the Ad-ID (ISCI) to indicate the insertion of the HD commercial.
ESPN can broadcast only down-converted, center-cut protected content for the Standard Definition audience. Any HD commercial
material submitted to ESPN networks for broadcast that is approved by Commercial Operations will air as produced on HD (i.e. – in full
format) and will be simulcast in center-cut format (i.e. – in 4x3 format) on the SD networks.
