im thinking more memory.. or an upgraded video card to get one last oomph of performance out of my
system. Going from 16 to 24 gigs of memory or adding the ati 5870 card...

which will i feel the most benefit from.... the nvidia 4800 seems to kick butt in Cuda processes, but thats just a few of my plugin sets...

im torn...

Get a card based on your needs for OTHER applications, not AE.

A hot card doesn't really help AE. Lots 'o processors and boatloads of memory are the things AE craves, and it sounds like you have that covered.

The reason why a great card is mostly irrelevant: AE can't effectively use Open GL acceleration when rendering. Oh, it's fine for previewing use, but Open GL almost always screws up renders, because it's beastly difficult to devise a comp of any complexity that uses only those effects in AE's Open GL command subset.

thats what I thought Dave... just wanted to see if i was missing anything with AE5....

someone offered me that 4800 card for some work.... but I read it was not very good except on a couple of my plug ins... the Cuda enabled ones... that cared sells for$1800!!

Do you get general 'snappiness' in desktop performance and any quicktime playback improvements would be my last curiosity... but may be better asked in another forum...

thanks..

Quicktime..... now there's an enigma. Ever since Apple had a sneak peak the the new 64-bit FCP, people have been wondering if QT will likewise get the 64-bit treatment.

And in typical Apple style, they say nothing.
