Hello,
I am attempting to replicate the fireworks from the Katy Perry music video "Firework". I am unsure of how I should proceed. I realize that the effect in the video is probably extremely hard to make, but if someone could give me some guidance on making a simpler, but still good version, I would appreciate it!
Here is a link to the video:

It looks like the shots were well planned in advance and fireworks elements were shot on black to match the perspective of each shot. There are particle systems involved as well in some shots.
You can find stock footage of Fireworks at http://www.detonationfilms.com
Also Particular has a preset for fireworks which can be tweaked for better results.
Here's a few fireworks tutorial links:

I'm assuming you don't have access nor want to get a good footage so: in a single frame, take a look at the fireworks... make 1 particle emitter layer for each spark you can differ...

There's a good presset for the "base" firework effect here http://people.redgiantsoftware.com/explore/presetdetail.aspx?presetid=1522

go from there, link all emitters to a null so you can easily rotate to the desired angle. Use glows, high motion blur and work with 32bpc.
