Missing Twirl Down arrow

Hi.

I'm trying to apply some time mapping to a layer in my comp. I can apply the effect, but there's no 'twirl down' arrow next to the Time Remap property, just a light grey dot where the twirl down would usually be.

Man, I need that twirl down! :)

I'm thinking there's probably an easy (and obvious!) solution to this but no amount of searching has turned it up so far. I've tried trashing the preferences, restarting and permission repair without any luck, any suggestions would be most welcome.

I'm, running;

AE CS4 9.0.2.42
system 10.5.8
Quicktime 7.6.9

Thanks!

How have you been readjusting the panels in the timeline lately?

Hi Dave,

I have, in fact I'm not sure there's much of anything that I haven't rearranged in the last week or so!

I've tried toggling all the switches/views etc, but without luck so far.

Try resetting your workspace to Standard or Animation or whatever they call the different layouts.

Thanks for the tip!

Unfortunately it didn't work, I did find some interesting workspace layouts though, so it's not a total loss. :)

Do you have a twirl-down arrow for other properties?
Could you show a screenshot of what it looks like?

I really appreciate your help on this. I've attached a pic that illustrates what I mean, you can see that the Time Remap only has a dot rather than a twirl down.

At this stage I'm hoping I've just done/am still doing something dumb!

That's a new one on me. What happens if you try applying Time Remapping in a new project? Hopefully it's a setting that's just for the one you're in.
This page [link] gives multiple ways to control time remapping. Hopefully you'll be able to work with it. You might try posting this question on the Adobe forums as well.

I had the same idea so made a new project for the example you see above, I also tried applying it to different types of layers, like precomps for example, but without any different result.

I'll read through the link you've provided and go to the source and see if they can help.

I really appreciate your help though, it's nice to get some friendly input instead of slowly going insane in a darkened room!

Secretly I'm glad it's weird and not just me. :)

Trick question! Time Remap doesn't twirl down. Like Scale or Position, Time Remap has no sub-properties (unless you add an expression).

Is there something specific you're trying to accomplish?

Doesn't it have 'point' editors, like handles that can be manipulated directly? A twirl down with the values represented by a line where the key frames are the 'handles' and the time values can be seen graphically?

I coulda sworn...

You are thinking of the Graph Editor [link].

Click the button on the timeline that looks like a graph:

Thanks Walter, that seems to be exactly what I wanted. It confused me though, the graph opens in a full screen mindbending display of complexity when all I was expecting was this...

Still living in the past it seems!

I've got some new skills to learn. A big thanks to everyone that helped me!

[Ed Swindells] "Thanks Walter, that seems to be exactly what I wanted."

Happy to help!

Make sure you only have the Time Remapping property selected -- the Graph Editor will display graphs for every property you have selected, so it can get crowded fast.

I still call blend modes "transfer modes" all the time. Old habits die hard!

Oh, are we not supposed to call them transfer modes anymore? Runs off in shame.
