I am trying to "tether" two objects together in 3d space.

Each one is moving in a direction, and i would like to tether them together with a visible line.

In an ideal world. i would create a line put a stroke on it and parent each end of the line's point to the moving object.

But as you know.. you can't parent points for masks or shapes to an object's position.

here is an example of what i'm going for.

The parts where two objects are moving in space, and are tethered/connected by a 1pt line...

I've tried playing with some expressions but couldn't get it quite right...

EDIT: Granted i know my example is more motion tracking... but i'm trying to get the same effect w/ only shapes and AI files...

-Thanks again!

You could parent a null object to each thing you want to be moving about the place. Then use the Beam effect on a new 2d layer to make your line. You will have to do some expression work to get the points to follow correctly.
You need the null object's anchor point to the comp. (Since it's parented, just pointing to the anchor point won't work.)
