how do i follow just the x and y position on a tracking?

Hi

I am making 3D text in after effects by duplicating the text layers and moving them a few pixels apart on the Z axis. I have about 7 layers.

I now want to have that text track with a movement in the video however when i pick whip to my NULL which has the tracking data it is copying of course the x,y, and Z data. So now I am loosing the Z axis depth and therefore losing my 3D look.

Precomping the text layers just makes the text look flat.

is there an expression that only allows the layer to follow the X and Y position and ignore the Z?

Thanks.

Instaed of Expressions, use Parenting. Set your Null to be a 3D layer before parenting.
