Transparent Background in After Effects
on Feb 16, 2011 at 12:12:02 am

Hi guys,

I have just created a sequence in After Effects and I want to export it with a transparent background. From reading other posts, they said to use Alpha + RGB and Millions of Colours+ and also to export using quicktime animation.

My problem is, I dont have quicktime animation in my dropdown list and also I need to use a format that Flash will also recognise, preferably SWF but thats not in my dropdown list either.

Any suggestions?

Thanks
Mairead

Don't export! Render using the AE Render Queue -- you can select the codec and the proper settings to make an alpha channel from there. AE 10 and Quicktime don't play nicely when it comes to exporting, and it's mainly Quicktime's fault.

I know nothing about flash.

[Mairead Donovan] "I still don't have quicktime"

Do you have Quicktime installed on your system?

Hi ya I installed Quicktime and its now giving me the option to render it out in quicktime.(thanks) But this still is not recognised by flash.

Any ideas what I render it out as so that I can also import it into Flash?

Thanks.

I had no idea, so I checked the manual [link].

Transparency in Flash video is supported in the On2 VP6 codec. You can use Adobe Media Encoder to make either from an intermediate render (Lossless with Alpha from AE), or directly from the comp by loading the AEP file into AME.
