Export AECS5 Project Layers as Files

Is there a way to batch export every layer of a project - so that each layer becomes a file with an Alpha Channel?

Any help would be appreciated.

In After Effects, you could use Composition > Save Frame As > Photoshop Layers.... Next, in Photoshop, open the file and use File > Scripts > Export Layers to Files...

Perhaps there is a script that would let you do it directly from AE, though I don't know of one offhand.

Thank you so much for responding - I may have found what I'm looking for:

I am about to test it now.

Ideally it will result in an individual .mov file for each layer (w/alphas)

That looks like a really useful script!

The only thing I'd caution you to keep in mind is that transfer modes can't carry over into your single-layer renders. If you need to reconstruct the project, you'll have to manually reset the transfer modes.

When I split projects out like this, if I have used any mode other than Normal, I add it to the end of the layer name / file name (for example, "Way Overused Lens Flare - Screen") so it's clear how to reconstruct it.

Just curious:

Did you find that script by asking on Twitter?
