I have a comp with some quick motion. I rotoed an element. Everything looks clean.

When I go to the higher level comps I suddenly artifacts along the border of the element,
as if it is not masked properly (which it is, of course).

here is an example:

you can also notice there is a slight shift in the motion in the frame, even though its the exact position on the timeline. Obviously this can drive a man insane.

• fps: 23.98 in all comps
• no time-remapping / effects. I thought it was time remap related but not.

anyone had this happen to him ?

cheers
Billet

Are you sure that all your comps and clips are at the same frame rate? Any of them interlaced?
Are you doing the roto straight on the layer or for some reason on an adjustment layer?

Would you happen to be working in something other than an updated version of AE 10?

[Ace Billet] "fps: 23.98 in all comps"

Worth noting -- what FCP rounds to 23.98 is really 23.976, and the difference is very important. Your comps should all be 23.976.

Also, depending on how you're working with your precomps, you may need to tick (or untick) the collapse transformations box.

Thanks good folks.

Yep = changing all the comps to 23.976 seemed to work.

Dave - I'm on a "virgin "CS5, I know the update is out but I don't like to update in mid-project.
what are the new perks of the update ?

merci.

If you can, look for Todd Kopriva's blog on the topic on the Adobe web site. He 'splains it a lot better than I ever could.

Excellent!

Loads of bugfixes. See Todd Kopriva's release notes [link] for details.

I think this update is worth doing.
