Ok,
I have a Targa sequence that was created in AE CS3 (about 3000 frames long),
I had to bring that back into AE and re-render that sequence out to a Quicktime movie.

It goes through about 10 or 15 frames then stops and gives me the error "Could not parse the file"

I checked for reasons and saw Dave's thread to make sure it wasnt in CMYK. It is not (RGB). I also saw people having this same error when only tyring to IMPORT INTO AE, not rendering out.

It imports fine, i can scrub through my timeline and it looks fine.
But rendering, is another story...

Any ideas?

---nevermind, i figured it out! :)

I'm curious, what was the cause of the error?

IM not 100% sure what originally caused the error when i first tried rendering it out. I would get some frames completed then get the error. So i i deleted the 10 frames, and try again...same error

Next i tried, leaving the 10 completed frames there and rendering again, this time checking the "skip existing files" box. and it finally worked.

BUT i couldnt take THAT sequence and render it out. i was going nuts. Finally i looked at all my targa files that rendered out and frame 10 said "0(zero)K" so deleted that single frame and rendered again with skip existing files an it finally worked.

So, like i said im not sure why it originally would crash, but either way i got the job done. Its going to be very annoying it i have to do this every time.

Nope, just a single machine.

If you are using a PC then it's worth noting that occasionally you can get "delayed write fail" pop up on the bottom right of the desktop (little yellow exclamation mark symbol).
I find this happens occasionally over network storage and very very occasionally on local storage if the OS has some problems.
I've never managed to locate a solid cause for such glitches though.

It is rather unlikely but possible that this might have been the reason for a random TGA file not to save correctly.

Here's a suggestion; don't use AE to do this -- use Quicktime Pro. You can open an image sequence, assign a frame rate, and export in the desired codec. If you happen to have some corrupt files in the sequence, it should give you a telltale error message.

QT Pro: the best 35 bucks you'll spend for quite some time.
