Just purchased my first (non-refurbished) Mac Pro and it is arriving next week - HOORAY ME! 2 x 2.4 GHz 8 core Westmere... Of course I now keep reading I should have went with the 6 core 3.3, but I've been working on a MacBook Pro since becoming a "professional," so I know I will be happy with my purchase.

My question is on the three sticks of RAM is god and filling all 4 slots on each processor is worthless. My current configuration is 4x2GB of RAM, so would buying 2x8gb and adding one to each processor be my best move, leaving one slot empty on each processor? I would like to avoid not using the RAM i already have, but I don't want to waste money on the wrong RAM purchase. I'm not a hardware guru, any input would be appreciated!

I work primarily with After Effects, FCS and Cinema 4D/ZBrush.... If it really matters for my question. Thanks

As far as AE goes, the more RAM the better.
